Want to use Windows server as linked clone? Here is the solution

As part of organization requirement, sometimes it's necessary to create a floating pool which has server operating system (Windows server 2008 or 2012).

Now by default you will not be able select to see your server Parent machine while creating the Pool

(even if you have taken right snapshot).

What can be done to make sure that you are able to select server OS as parent for the horizon pool?

we can change some parameter in ADAM database of view infrastructure to make sure it allows server operating systems as Parent machines for view pool.

Solution

To run View Administrator with Windows 2008 R2, 2012 R2 as a supported operating system for View desktops:

1. On your View Connection Server host, start the ADSI Edit utility. For more information, see

connecting to the View ADAM Database (Search for KB 2012377). 2. Navigate to the object DC=vdi,DC=vmware,DC=int > OU=Properties > OU=Global > CN=Common.

3. In the Attribute Editor for the DC=vdi,DC=vmware,DC=int > OU=Properties > OU=Global > CN=Common object,

set the paeEnableServerInDesktopMode attribute to 1.

This settings will allow you to select server operating system as parent machine that you can use to create a horizon view pool.
